Barnacles Bar & Grill: Barns Cali Chicks

I was out with a friend in Hermosa Beach when she said "if you want good bar food, we should check out Barnacles." I had no idea the food was so fantastic! I had the Barns Cali Chicks and a Blue Moon. the Barns Cali Chicks are 3 mini Cajun chicken sandwiches, topped with bacon, avocado and jack cheese on sweet Hawaiian rolls. They are SO GOOD! I am shocked that these spicy Cajun chicken on sweet Hawaiian rolls with bacon and avocado came out of a dive bar. I ADORE dive bars. They always have friendly staff and customers and they are DARK - which is what I look for in a dive bar. They came with these fantastic french fries with the skin left on. The Barns Cali Chicks at Barnacles are spicy, sweet, salty, and so good! If you are in Hermosa Beach, check out Barnacles and their Barns Cali Chicks - You won't be disappointed!

New Coca-Cola Machine!

This is crazy! The Coca-Cola company has come out with a brand new way to enjoy soda. With normal fountain soda machines, we can have as little as four choices due to lack of space. With the new slim Coca-Cola machine, we can now have up to 106 choices to choose from! It looks so slim and sleek! It has a touch screen, but only one spicket - this may cause a line! Too many choices and not enough spickets - but, this still looks super cool!

I have not seen one in Los Angles, yet. But, Coca-Cola has a Facebook page and also has a tab for the locations! CHECK IT OUT. I am so excited because you have choices other than soda. They even have a few different Lemonade choices! Yum!!

What do you think? Is this cool, awesome, epic, boring, adding to our problem? Comment below, people! Let me know!!

Venice High Flea Market

I found a website listing the Venice High Flea Market as a place where 60 vendors meet up in the 2nd Saturday of every month. They boasted the Venice High Flea Market as a place where you can find "Great antiques, clothing, jewelry, collectibles, toys, crafts, and much more..." Actually, the Venice High Flea Market was super lame! It only had about 22 vendors (I counted 20 inside and 2 outside). After I left, I realized I could not be dissappointed in a flea market that does not charge. I had a nice time walking around in the California sunshine, but the Venice High Flea Market was a bust. No good antiques, clothing, collectibles, toys, or crafts - just a bunch of overpriced junk - I was listening to people ask prices of trinkets and the popular going rate: $5. I was shocked. I kept putting things down when Vendors repeatedly asked outrageous flea market prices for junk they didn't even want. Even a (clearly) used pet bed was quoted at $10. Hardly attending the Venice High Flea Market actually bought anything. Almost everyone I saw leaving around 10:45 (I came at 9:30) left empty handed.

Venice High Flea Market Rating:
3/5
Reason for rating: Lots of overpriced junk, no antiques or anything of real quality, received a higher rating for free street parking and admission.

Tea and Tree Lover

I have found a black cherry berry tea that I am in love with! If we recycle 1 ton of paper we can save 17 trees! Recycle everything you can - paper notices, mail, cereal boxes, tissue boxes - it all helps!
Lastly, I love watching this baby panda sneeze on youtube. It makes me smile every time!!

The Gross Sidewalk Cafe and Full Bar - Los Angeles

While on the boardwalk in Santa Monica/Venice area of Los Angeles, I stopped into The Sidewalk Cafe and Full Bar. The food is OK, but honestly, you pay to be able to watch people walk by.

I should have brought my lunch and sat on the grass. I have nothing else to say because all I can think of is the sign when I was leaving:

I thought you HAD TO HAVE AN 'A' RATING!!

Gross!

Loney is Dirty! Get Some Lavender You Dirty Boy!!

James Loney from the Dodgers was voted the player with the dirty locker - by his OWN teammates! All of them said James Loney is the dirtiest! ALL OF THEM!

He needs to get some dried lavender and put it in his locker. He is gross!

Also, I love Tim Lincecum.

Two burps for those who love 'em!

Howard's Famous Bacon & Avocado Burgers

Howard's has a huge sign outside of their place that screams "Yummy!"

I found Howard's when I was waiting at the light of Venice Blvd and Sepulveda in Culver City. I was in the right hand lane, hungry, and new to LA. I spotted this sign and made my move. Luckily, I had cash on me because this is a CASH ONLY hamburger joint! I adore bacon, avocado, and burgers and I am from Southern California - I know a good burger. They have their own special sauce which is great on the burger!

Howard's has only a few tables, but a killer take-out business. The food is fresh and comes out fast. On the walls are old movie promotions and a collage of famous faces from the 50's. After eating at Howard's, I think I'm done with In n Out. They have long lines and an OK burger. I go there because it is fresh, but Howard's is fresh and offers bacon and avocado!! They have steak fries that are not soggy or too crunchy. They know what they are doing at Howard's and truly have a Famous Bacon & Avocado Burger.

Diddy Riese Cookies and Ice Cream

Cookies and Ice Cream have never been so good, fresh, and so cheap!
Los Angelino's rarely wait for anything; except great food.

Diddy Riese bakes some very tasty cookies. They take the awesome cookies and make delicious ice cream sandwiches with Dreyer's ice cream!! The cookies are creamy yet crumbly and not chewy. They really need some self serve water, though! $1.50 and you have a great dessert or treat. I am now going to be dreaming of two cookies that are just fabulous and a handful of ice cream. They have brownies, 10 different cookie selections and 12 choices of ice cream. I highly recommend Diddy Riese!!

Father's Office Los Angeles

Oh my goodness! I love hamburgers and I also love beer. All I really wanted was to see beer taps as far as the eye could see. Father's Office has made me so happy. The hamburger they serve is just fantastic. I think it may be the best hamburger I've ever had out of a bar. The shoestring french fries are OK, but the sauce they serve with them is what takes the french fries to the next level of goodness. And the beer selection with over 10 taps - I am in love with this place! The ambiance is laid back and almost woodsie...Is that a word? Well, it has a lot of wood and I like the feel of it! You can eat outside, inside, or at the bar. But, this place has no hostess. Keep your eyes peeled for a free seat because this place gets crowded the later you go.

Just look at these photos! Yummy!

Move to a new town and need a great hairdresser? Here's how to find one:

I answer SarahDB89's question about getting a haircut.

This video is really directed towards the Green Ladies, but I do give the Green Guys a great coffee burp near the end. Also, I love http://imboycrazy.com because she is so much fun!!

First up on this crazy vlog is my original pajama song.
Then my new art series, Vampifood.
I got some weird mail!
Public Service Announcement for the ladies: DO NOT SHOP AT ULTA. The beauty superstore has a horrible return policy.

Lastly, I give SarahDB89 and everyone advice about haircuts.

Getting a haircut is much more than a simple task for a lady. Ladies have to keep a dramatic cut for a long, long time. I've been getting a lot of haircut questions, so I am answering them in this video and blog!

To find a hairstylist:
Research, research, research! I went to Yelp.com and searched for a young, spunky, funky, rock-a-billy salon. I found one and I just love it! People who leave reviews will leave the Stylist's name in the review. When you take down their phone number, take down names of stylists with positive reviews.

The most important part about the haircut is your communication:
* They are hairdressers, not mind readers. If you are picky, let them know!
* If you are going above the shoulders: Do you care if it all fits into a ponytail or is it OK for some pieces to fall out?
* Do you use products? Shampoo/Conditioner, blow dryers, brushes/combs, etc.
* Tell them your hair plans: are you growing it out, or trying this cut for the first time? If not, what did you really like about the cut that you want again.
* Don't use inches. Point out where you'd like to see your hair fall when it is dry.
* Tell them your current hair goal.
I said "I want it short, but funky. Layers are good to add body. Above my shoulders, but it does not all have to fit into a pony. Pieces can fall out; I think it's cute. I don't use products, but I do shampoo with a natural, sulfate free shampoo. I like a medium, swooping bang. My natural part is on my right side."
* I always ask them to style my hair. You are allowed to see the finished product. Ask when you call if they offer the blow-out for free. They should! A professional blow-out is always so fantastic!!
* If you like the job they did, please tip them at least 20%. Ask about free bang trims between cuts. Tip them at least $5 for the free bang trim.
* Get their card! This means you truly want to come back and see them; even if you don't make your next appointment right after the first cut.

Keep the great questions and requests coming!!

Apple Pan: The Best Pie

The best place to have a slice of pie is Apple Pan, off Pico Blvd. in Culver City! I have gone there and had almost everything on the menu! The feel of Apple Pan is almost like a Johnny Rockets, but they have pie instead of milkshakes. The menu has not changed since 1947, although the pies available change daily.

When you walk in, you notice a counter and a line forming against the wall. Los Angelino's hardly wait for anything - but they do wait for great food from the Apple Pan!

The best eats? Well, the Hickoryburger is my favorite, with a IBC root beer, fries, and a slice of their pie. I've only tried the Apple Pie, Blackberry Cream, Banana Cream, Pecan Pie, Chocolate Cream, and Strawberry Cream Pie. I just adore this wonderful, old school original.
